Why generator brand and AVR brand get confused
A Cummins or CAT branded generator set is really an assembly of components from several manufacturers, the diesel engine, the alternator, the AVR, and the controller can each come from a different specialist, bolted together under one nameplate. Perkins builds engines, not alternators, and Cummins Power Generation sources alternators and AVR cards from established electrical manufacturers rather than building the voltage regulation electronics in house.
This matters when the AVR fails, because ordering by generator brand alone, asking for a Cummins AVR or a CAT AVR, sends a supplier looking in the wrong catalog. The AVR itself carries its own brand and model, printed directly on the card.
Stamford AVRs
Stamford, part of Cummins Generator Technologies, is one of the most common alternator and AVR brands fitted inside Cummins branded generator sets, and it also shows up inside Perkins, CAT and FG Wilson gensets that source their alternator from the same supply chain.
